Violin Masterclass
Calling all violinists! The Princeton Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey invite area students to apply to perform live for Aubree Oliverson, the PSO's season-opening solo violinist. Those selected will have the chance to receive instruction, constructive critique, and artistic insights from Ms. Oliverson in front of a listening audience.
Application Deadline: Sunday, October 12th at 11:59 pm.
Requirements:
- Submit an unedited video recording with 5-10 minutes of music featuring the intended performance piece.
- Submit a completed copy of the Registration Form by the deadline above.
- The recording can be with or without piano.
- A single movement of a multi-movement piece is acceptable.
- Repertoire may be for solo violin or violin and piano duo, including sonatas and concertos with piano reduction.
- If selected, masterclass performance will match instrumentation of selected repertoire - if for violin and piano, violinist must perform with collaborative pianist (not a recording). Pianist will be provided by the PSO at no cost to student. The student may also use their own accompanist if preferred.
- Selected masterclass participants must supply all scores relevant to their repertoire. If piece is for violin and piano duo (or violin and piano reduction), participant must have solo part and send piano score at the time of submission.
- Students must be age 12-18 at time of application.
- Submissions can be shared as a private youtube link through the Registration Form.
Participants will be notified of their acceptance no later than Monday, October 20th.
This masterclass is presented in partnership with the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey.

American violinist Aubree Oliverson is proving to be one of the most compelling artists of her generation. Aubree recently appeared with the Chamber Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall, Utah Symphony, Peace Orchestra Project, and Ridgefield Symphony. Other highlights include performances with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony, Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, North Carolina Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Des Moines Symphony, Excelentia Madrid, Slovak Sinfonietta, Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra, and New Haven Symphony, among others. She is committed to performing beloved standards of the repertoire, as well as bringing lesser-known pieces into the spotlight. Aubree has won awards at the Verbier and Aspen Music Festivals, and from the National YoungArts Foundation. She was named as a United States Presidential Scholar in the Arts and as the 2023 Francis Rosen Prize recipient at the Colburn Conservatory. Aubree graduated from the Colburn Music Academy in 2016 and from the Colburn Conservatory in 2023, where she studied with Robert Lipsett. She plays a very fine Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, on loan from Irene R. Miller through the Beare's International Violin Society.
