Soundtracks Talk

The Story of Orpheus and Eurydice
Free and open to the public.
The Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, famously rendered by the Roman poet Virgil, is one of the most enduring in the Western canon — as full of inspiration today as it was centuries ago. Artists, writers, playwrights, and composers have kept the tragic tale alive through countless reimaginings.

Storyteller Maria LoBiondo offers a delightful retelling of this classic myth and invites you to explore its meaning as a preview to Dobrinka Tabakova's orchestral work Orpheus Comet, to be performed on the PSO’s season-opening concert.

Attendees of the talk will have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win tickets to the Princeton Symphony Orchestra's October 25th and October 26th concerts.

Maria Lobiondo headshotMaria LoBiondo delights in sharing the old tales — myths, folk and fairy tales— with listeners of all ages in classrooms, libraries, religious settings, and festivals. She believes these stories create a world of their own as they unfold in the telling, connecting us with previous generations and with each other today. Her engaging style and lively expressions have enchanted listeners for more than 30 years.

In 2020 she captivated a packed audience at the Princeton Public Library for a Soundtracks Talk in advance of Princeton Symphony Orchestra’s concert featuring Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. We welcome her return to our series.
