Under the Hood of Albert Herring

with Timothy Urban
Free and open to the public

Join Professor Timothy Urban for his presentation "Under the hood of Albert Herring," a shallow dive into the deep pool of Benjamin Britten’s musical wit.

Program

Dismissed by some critics as having little substance, Benjamin Britten’s comic chamber opera has more to it than meets the casual listener. Under, above, and even intertwined with the surface, one finds myriad references to other operas and musical styles and it sometimes even seems Britten may be poking fun at himself.
